Sea Life Full August Sturgeon Moon with Flying Fish
Wellfleet Moon series - 12"x 36", oil on canvas. The Sturgeon – the oldest living fish of all, archaic prototype of fish as we know them…rather too cartilaginous to eat but produce lovely caviar. Found in rivers from New England to the Great Lakes, they can live to 100. Critically endangered, this one made a fascinating subject to paint and was based on my research. It is depicted with three flying fish – also known for their roe, or caviar, called Tobiko, a delicacy found in various Japanese sushi.
Sturgeon Moon is the full moon for August, its name originating with the Algonquin tribes. One of a kind and collectible.
