Sculpture - Sam Bellamy's Galley Cat "Scratch"
Sam Bellamy's Galley Cat "Scratch" is an acrylic plaster sculpture mounted on an authentic lobster pot buoy. Every ship has its mouser, and after years of successful mouse chasing despite a peg leg, Scratch wears a key to the food locker and has earned a daily mug of rum.
This sculpture was a feature at the Whydah Pirate Museum in Provincetown 2018-2021. The coin Scratch is holding is a reproduction from Bellamy's treasure. The authentic gold coins from the Whydah galley which wrecked in 1717 off Wellfleet, are on view at the Whydah Pirate Museum in Yarmouth.
